Artists Equity Closes $500M Slate Deal: How Ben Affleck & Matt Damon Share Profits with Crew
The creator-led studio model revolutionizes indie and studio production, distributing tens of millions in performance bonuses directly to below-the-line technicians.
Founded by childhood collaborators Ben Affleck and Matt Damon with backing from RedBird Capital, Artists Equity has secured a new $500 million production credit facility.
The Profit-Sharing Paradigm
Unlike traditional Hollywood studios where only above-the-line talent (stars, directors, producers) participate in backend gross, Artists Equity structures its contracts so that cinematographers, editors, costume designers, and key crew members receive performance-contingent bonuses.
Their debut feature *Air* yielded over $4.5 million in bonus distributions to below-the-line crew members following its successful theatrical run and Prime Video global licensing deal.
